Concept

We are being tracked 24/7. From AI facial recognition technology to mobile tracking applications, these highly sophisticated systems operate without transparency and trust, blurring the lines between safety, and exploitation. These hidden observers seek information about our private lives and monitor our behaviours and choices, formulating algorithms that strip away personal autonomy. We must question those in power on who has access to our information and for what purpose, in order to re-establish our civil liberties, our human ethical integrity and make the invisible visible.

Result

My project “Specularium”, interrogates the surveillance society and it’s profound implications through an immersive virtual reality experience. The user will journey through a series of unique 3D exhibits, designed to critically engage with a specific ethical dilemma within the overarching theme of surveillance, such as power, control, invasion of privacy, harvesting of data, visibility and its psychological impact. These spaces will translate the often-abstract nature of contemporary surveillance into multi-sensory, interactive encounters, evoking the feelings of being watched, surveilled, controlled and monitored, making the complex reality of surveillance visually and emotionally impactful.
