Event Overview
A skate jam is an event that promotes and celebrates skateboarding, its community and culture. It is an event that provides skateboarders with an opprtunity to connect, learn, showcase their skills and ultimately have fun in an open and inclusive environment. Unlike more formal and competitive skate events, a skate jam often feels closer to a street festival or cultural gathering, focusing on the grassroot and creative aspect of skateboarding.
Scope
The challenge was to design an event that fosters community engagement, creating a unified relationship between people, space, spectacle and culture. The beauty of a skate jam is that it perfectly creates this relationship through its creativity and inclusiveness. The event is situated on Pier 76 in NYC and was visually articulated through a series of spatial diagrams and renderings.
